Do you need a Buy diesel fuel pump for a 2004 Dodge Ram Diesel?

Signs of a pump problem:

First, does the engine exhibit these symptoms? If the answer is ‘yes’, you may have a diesel fuel pump failure.

  • Engine Will Not Crank – When the engine’s fuel pump is not properly sending diesel fuel to the injectors, your truck’s engine will experience a shortage of fuel, and will not run.
  • Vehicle Difficult To Start – If your engine’s pump is becoming weak, but hasn’t yet entirely failed, you may discover that it’s having trouble sending the proper amount of diesel to the injectors during starting, producing a difficult to start vehicle.
  • Decreased Power From The Diesel Engine – There may be countless potential reasons for lower than usual diesel engine power in your 2004 Dodge Ram Diesel – one possible issue may be a failing fuel pump.  When your pump is failing, it may not be sending an adequate amount of diesel to the injectors to provide the diesel engine the ideal horsepower levels.  Because an abundance of issues that may be resulting in a decrease in power however, proper troubleshooting of the engine’s problem is critical.

Why do fuel pumps must be replaced?

Sometimes fuel pumps go bad, most commonly due to contaminated fuel . When this occurs, the truck might suffer from poor power, cranking issues, or complete failure to start the vehicle.

The following are typical causes that pumps go bad:

  • Bad fuel or contaminants in diesel. When your fuel is bad or contains contaminants, it could stop up your vehicle’s fuel pump and result in it not operating properly.
  • Failing MRomp. The fuel pressure regulator is a small part on the fuel pump that sometimes fail. Occassionally only the Fuel Pressure Regulator goes bad, and not the internal parts of the diesel fuel pump.  To determine if the MRomp is the issue, you’ll need to carefully examine the Fuel Pressure Regulator to see if it has metal flakes or other contamination (trash, water, etc.) within it, or near where it screws in.  If yes, there’s a good chance that there’s another issue that’s causing the Fuel Pressure Regulator to fail, and you will likely need to replace the fuel pump and clean out your diesel fuel system.
  • Freeze plugs blown out. Occasionally the freeze plugs will blow out internally within the pump.  If this happens with your pump, this is an indicator of serious damage inside the diesel pump. Pumps that have the freeze plugs blown out will have to be replaced, and the old pump’s core is not any good, so it cannot be exchanged.
