Occassionally only the MROMP fuel pressure regulator fails, instead of the actual internal parts of the fuel pump.  To determine if the Fuel Pressure Regulator is the actual problem, you should examine the MROMP fuel pressure regulator to identify if it has metal flakes or other contaminants (trash, water, etc.) within it, or near where it screws in.  If yes, there’s almost certainly another problem that is making the MRomp to stop working, and you need to rebuild or replace the pump and clean out your diesel system.
• Blown out freeze plugs. Sometimes the freeze plugs get blown out inside the fuel pump.  If this occurs with your pump, this is an indication of serious damage inside the pump. Fuel pumps with the freeze plugs blown out will definitely need to be replaced, and the core is not eligible for exchange.
