Do you want a OEM Common Rail diesel fuel pump for a 2004 Dodge Ram with 5.9L Cummins Diesel?

How to detect if your pump is going bad?

First, does the vehicle show some of these signs and symptoms? If that’s the case, you could have a fuel pump problem.

  • Motor Will Not Stay Running – When your engine’s diesel pump isn’t correctly feeding diesel to your engine, your engine could fail to receive enough diesel fuel, and won’t crank or run.
  • Engine Hard To Start – If your truck’s fuel pump is losing it’s strength, but hasn’t completely failed, it’s possible that it’s failing to send enough diesel to the injectors during cranking, resulting in a hard to crank truck.
  • Decreased Power From The Engine – There may be lots of potential reasons for lowered engine horse power in a 2004 Dodge Ram with 5.9L Cummins Diesel – one possible issue could be a fuel pump that’s going bad.  If your fuel pump is failing, it may not be sending the proper amount of diesel fuel to the injectors to give the diesel engine it’s optimal levels of horsepower.  Given that there are an abundance of issues that may be causing a loss of power though, correct diagnosis of your reduced power is very important.

Why fuel pumps need to be repaired?

From time-to-time diesel pumps fail, usually as a result of contaminated fuel . When this occurs, the truck will possibly suffer from lack of power, cranking problems, or total failure to crank.

The following are common causes for diesel pumps to fail:

  • Contaminants and/or bad diesel – Bad pumps are ususally caused by bad fuel (contaminants in the fuel,) which can damage or clog the diesel pump, forcing them to stop functioning properly.
  • Fuel Pressure Regulator Failure. The fuel pressure regulator is a small piece on the pump that occasionally goes bad. Occassionally just the MRomp stops working, instead of the internal parts of the diesel pump.  To diagnose if the MRomp is the source of the problem, you should carefully examine the Fuel Pressure Regulator to identify if it has any metal flakes or other contaminants (trash, non-fuel liquid, etc.) on the inside of it, or in the area close to where it screws in.  If so, there’s almost certainly a larger issue that’s making the MROMP fuel pressure regulator to fail, and you will likely need to replace or rebuild the pump and clean your diesel system.
  • Blown out freeze plugs. Occasionally the freeze plugs get blown out within the pump.  When this happens, this is an indication of serious problems within the fuel pump. Pumps that have the freeze plugs blown out will certainly need to be replaced, and the old pump’s core is not eligible for exchange.

At times when you have fuel pump troubles, Taylor Diesel is ready to help. From drive in repair to testing, fixing, and/or rebuilding your existing diesel pumps, Taylor Diesel offers the diesel fuel injection solutions which you require to get your truck back working quick.

If your diesel truck is showing these listed symptoms, you then might have failing diesel pump. Depending on your skill level, you may want to switch out the diesel fuel pump yourself or just take the truck to a diesel mechanic, like one of our Taylor Diesel Full-Service diesel repair garages, for qualified help.
